Kheerganga Trek A Perfect Detailed Guide

Kasol, located in the heart of the Parvati Valley, is a Himachal Pradesh trekking paradise. 

The lush green valleys of Kasol are complemented by the elegant Parvati River, which flows alongside like a pearl necklace. Trekkers and nature lovers from all over the world come here. Surprisingly, many of them choose to remain. The Kheerganga trek is the most popular trek in Parvati Valley. Tosh village, Manikaran hot springs, Kheerganga, Parvati River, and almost everything else here is serene. During the treks from Kasol, you will be able to see the valley’s raw nature in action. 

Kasol and its neighbouring villages, such as Tosh and Malana, are places where people live in harmony with nature. Humans do not bully nature in this place; they coexist.

How do I get to Kasol and Bhuntar?

There is no direct bus or rail service from Delhi/Chandigarh to Kasol.

The nearest airport connecting Kasol to the rest of the world is Bhuntar Airport near Kullu, which is 31 kilometres from Kasol.

Buses to Kullu/Manali travel via Delhi, Chandigarh, Mandi, and Bhunter. 

You’d have to go down to Bhuntar.

From Bhuntar, there are regular bus services to and from Kasol. Buses are owned and operated by both private and public entities.

You can take a bus from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, R K Ashram Metro Station, or Majnu-ka-Tila in Delhi. 

You can easily book them online. 

In comparison to other state-run bus services, HRTC buses are the most punctual.

Keep in mind that buses from Bhuntar to Kasol may not be available early in the morning. 

  • Request that your bus driver/conductor drop you off at the Bhuntar bus stand, a few kilometres before Kullu. Pathankot is the nearest railway station in terms of broad gauge.
  • The actual trek begins in Barshaini, the last motorable point in Parvati Valley, about 16 kilometres from Kasol. 

Details about Kheerganga Trek

Kheerganga trek is the most well-known of the Kasol treks. After navigating the rocky terrain, you will arrive at the hot spring of Kheerganga. All your worries and ailments will be washed away if you take a bath in warm water! The trek begins in Barshai. We drive from Kasol to Barshai. From there, the actual trek to Kheerganga begins. A path leads from Barshani to Tosh village, 3 kilometres away.

Trekking routes to Kheerganga

There are two courses from Barshaini to the Kheerganga Trek: Barshaini is a small town with a taxi rank, few accommodations, and caravans.

From here, a rough road leads to Tosh, two miles from Barshaini.

1) From the Barshaini bridge, turn right and hike up to Kalga village. 

This route, which passes through dense forests, is slightly longer but puts forward an easy climb and is appropriate for beginners and infrequent trekkers.

2) The second path takes through Nathan village, and you must turn left from the bridge in Barshaini. This is the shorter and more popular route, but it is quite steep in places and thus difficult. This Kheerganga trek route is moderate, but it is not recommended for people who have heart problems. There are many cafes and tea shops available in Kheerganga. Between 2 and 4 p.m., the last bus from Barshaini to Bhuntar departs. 

For exact timing, check with a taxi stand or a Dhaba.

Food & Stay during Kheerganga Trek

A street dotted with restaurants serving foreign cuisines, the majority of which will be Israeli, can be found in Kasol. The real reason for Israeli cuisine’s popularity is the growing number of Israeli tourists. There were also German and Chinese restaurants. 

Be daring and have your breakfast in Israel, lunch in Germany, and dinner in China!  You will not be sorry.

Best Time for Kheerganga Trek

One of the reasons why the Kasol and Kheerganga Trek is so popular is that it is accessible almost all year. Kheerganga is open most of the year, with the exception of a few weeks during the peak winter season. During the monsoon season, the Kheerganga trek becomes difficult. 

The trail is still open to experienced hikers. The trek is best from April to November, with the best months being April/May and September/October.

Is the Kheerganga trek open now?

Following the government order, there have been some concerns about whether or not the Kheerganga trek will be operational. The trek is fully operational and not prohibited. Yes, most operators no longer offer overnight camping at Kheerganga, and Rurdranag, which is close to Kheerganga, now serves as an overnight campsite.  This trek’s beauty or experience has been unaffected. You can still visit Kheerganga, but only for a day hike. Camping under the stars in the Himalayas remains a pristine natural beauty experience.

Kasol is the starting point for several incredible treks.  Kasol is the starting point for nearly five world-famous trekking routes. Almost all of them will assist you in becoming enlightened! The marsh of the Chandrakani pass, the dreamlike village of Tosh, and the magical village of Malana are all nearby astounding villages where you can pitch your tent and explore. If that doesn’t work, you can spend the night camping along the Parvati River, which ensures that the entire village can hear her roar all the time.
