Magical Santa Photography: Capturing the Magic of the Season
Santa photography isn’t as simple as it might seem. There are many aspects to consider when taking pictures of Santa, especially when you’re working with children and families during this most important time of the year. This article will give you the advice you need to take great Santa photos at your next event or holiday party and capture that magical moment that can last forever in your clients’ memories and hearts.
Preparation
Santa photography is a magical experience for families, children, and Santa himself. To create the perfect Santa shoot, follow these steps to ensure that you have a successful experience.
1. Do your research! There are a lot of professional photographers out there who can capture that magical moment for you. Look at their portfolios and see if they have any ideas or examples for shoots with kids.
You will likely want to book with someone early in December so they can be sure to get their schedule cleared on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
2. Make it fun! Santa needs some help getting into the holiday spirit too!
The Photo Shoot
The Santa session is a magical time for children, parents and grandparents alike. The kids are so excited and joyous to visit with Santa that they usually don’t even mind sitting on his knee. Santa’s costume will create an instant sense of wonder as he enters into your home. I love watching families bond over this experience – it’s truly a magical time!
We offer professional Santa photography in Colorado Springs, CO and surrounding areas including Castle Rock, Monument, Falcon, Woodland Park and more.
The Reveal
Step 1 – Schedule your session. Santa photography sessions can be scheduled as early as November, and no later than December 15th.
Step 2 – Prepare for your session by choosing a location and setting up a full-length mirror in front of a window. This will help Santa see himself in the mirror during the session to ensure he’s not stepping on any toes with his sleigh bells or standing too close to children (Santa always wants to give children ample space).
Step 3 – Prepare for the session with good lighting! You want it bright enough so that you can see who is being photographed, but not so bright that you create shadows or glare on faces.
Santa Sessions
1. We meet at a mutually agreed upon location. We can either take your photos at my studio or if it is more convenient for you, we can go to your home or event space.
2. I will create an environment where children feel comfortable, in order to capture their natural expressions and emotions without concern about posing for pictures.
3. Santa’s workshop is designed as a photo shoot backdrop with Christmas trees, presents and toys all around. These are things that kids love. The set-up creates the perfect setting for Santa Sessions, capturing images that make kids (and parents) want to come back every year!
4. Santa also brings his own furry friend – Mr. Jingles – who doesn’t mind being dressed up in adorable outfits too! 5. The sessions typically last between 20-30 minutes and are tailored to suit each individual family so they get exactly what they’re looking for from their time with Santa 6. Santa Photoshoot
Santa photography is about capturing the magic and excitement of this special time for families. My Santa sessions start with a family photoshoot in which we capture natural smiles and genuine reactions in a signature Photoshoot. I also offer an on-location photo shoot where you can come to me! The first part is all about getting to know each other, and I love watching your children’s faces light up when they meet Santa. At this point in the session, kids are often shy or reserved–but that changes when they get their picture taken with Santa! Then, it’s onto some one-on-one time with Santa himself. This time is for exploring his cabin and playing games that create lasting memories that will last forever.
