Designer Brandon Maxwell showed his second collection
at New York City’s Monkey Bar last night https://www.justinfo.live/ to a crowd of fashion editors, buyers, and Lady Gaga, fresh off her epic Grammy Awards tribute to David Bowie. The ELLE crew wasn’t sure she’d make it considering her crazy busy week, but we were wrong. “I would never miss the show for anything,” she was overheard saying.
Maxwell’s sophomore collection
one that according to the brand “pays homage to the beautiful city of New York with injections of art deco references,” was full of tailored coats and pants, languid gowns, and ruffle-sleeve shirts and dresses cut from luxe velvet, cashmere, and silk crepe. I wanted each and every single piece. By the end of the show I wanted to BE the Brandon Maxwell woman.
I wasn’t the only one, though
Lady Gaga, who’s used Maxwell as her fashion director since 2012, gave the young designer a standing ovation at the end of the show. We even caught her crying!
After a long ass day (the show didn’t begin until 9:30pm) I’m surprised I didn’t join her in that. Inspired by the diversity of the models, in love with the sharp black and white color palette, and delirious from lack of sleep, I could have easily cried, too.
