What we know about Call of Duty WWII

After passing through the contemporary age, and even the future, the popular shooter returns to its origins of World War II with Call of Duty WWII, which will arrive on PC and consoles on November 3, 2017. In total, they have already sold more than 250 million copies, and have made a profit of 15,000 million dollars.

The first Call of Duty was published in 2003 as a first-person shooter set in World War II. It used the same graphics and physics engine as Quake III Arena, another popular futuristic shooter loved for its frenetic speed and high doses of violence.

Although it was very similar to another warfare series at the time, Medal of Honor introduced a novelty that was well received by the public: artificial intelligence controlled other units in the squad that supported the player. This was a change from the “lone wolf” style of play that had dominated first-person games up until then, and forced players to think more as a team.

The game followed the campaigns of American, British, and Soviet soldiers; and, in single player mode, it featured missions with objectives that had to be accomplished in order to progress. Thus, the individual game mode by which the Call of Duty franchise would be known was developed (although, like all shooting games, the “chicha” was in the multiplayer mode through the internet).

The first Call of Duty sold 4.5 million copies , and was met with cheers from critics and audiences alike. It even won several awards in 2003, such as best revelation studio, best first-person shooter, or game of the year.

Two years later they released the sequel, Call of Duty 2, which would have better graphics , a longer campaign and introduced elements that would endure in modern COD: grenade proximity indicators and a regenerating health system. The game was very well received (it was a time when online gaming was just beginning to develop, thanks to better internet connections) and paved the way for Infinity Ward (the creators) to have a successful franchise. In total, 6 million copies of the sequel have been sold.

Since then, Infinity Ward has been moving away from World War II (they only made two more installments set during that time), and has been focusing on the modern world or even the future. In total, about 25 games in the franchise have been published, about one per year, to keep production high and players entertained.

However, the development in graphics has allowed game developers to look back to times that they had already touched, but with modern gameplay. Remakes are not only a movie thing, but also occur in video games. A good example was Battlefield 1 , released this year, in which the franchise focused on massive combat, with huge maps and vehicles (which had been developing further and further into the future), returned to the First World War.

Call of Duty WWII returns to World War II

With Call of Duty WWII the same thing happens a bit: Infinity Ward returns to the time that established them as leaders of shooters: World War II. The game will be released for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 3, 2017.

Not much is known at the moment, except that for the solo campaign the health regeneration system will be disabled and players will have to rely on AI-controlled medics present in the squad. A more difficult ‘hardcore’ mode will also be introduced , in which if you die, you will have to start the campaign all over again.

As for the multiplayer, we will have to wait for the E3 2017 fair (from June 13 to 15) to be able to see it live. It is known that some elements of modern Call of Duty will be maintained, such as progression through levels and classes. However, some “impossible” abilities, such as double jump or wall running, will be removed to keep combat more realistic.
Of course , the popular zombie cooperative mode will return to delivery. In it, the Third Reich, in a desperate attempt to win the war, has figured out how to create soldiers that come back to life, and players will have to defend a base from increasingly difficult hordes of zombie Nazi soldiers. This is one of the most loved game modes by Call of Duty players, and they would have protested if it wasn’t available.

As for the plot of the campaign, it follows a squad of Allied forces in Europe, from 1944 to 1945, when they were mustering their numbers to advance against Germany. The combat scenarios will be France, Belgium and the Rhine.

You will primarily play as two soldiers from the First Infantry Division: Ronald “Red” Daniels and Robert Zussman; although it can also be played at specific moments such as Rousseau, a leader of the French resistance; or Edgar Crowley, a British special forces officer.
